First of all, we would love you to share the story of your business with us in a short statement - where and how you started and what inspired you.
1/ I'm Beth and I'm the owner of beauty balm- an all natural skincare company. I founded beauty balm during lockdown in 2020 after struggling to find my passion and career path in life. Originally from the South of England, I've always had a love for the beauty of nature which only escalated further when I moved to a very rural area of Scotland. Surrounded and inspired by all things natural, I combined my love for skincare as well as my strong beliefs in self-care and self-love to create beauty balm!
As your own boss and a small business owner how do you juggle your work and life and ensure that you don't work too much?
2/ As a brand that encourages and promotes self-care, it's important to me that I also live by these values. Which isn't always easy I might add! Life is busy and owning my own business can mean working harder and longer than I ever have before. To avoid burn out I've found that planning is key. Scheduling posts, emails and tasks makes it so much easier to juggle the endless amount of tasks that small business owners have. I have two calendars, a planner and a diary to make sure I keep on top of my work.
Where do your product and branding ideas come from?
3/ We live in such an innovative age that coming up with original ideas is pretty hard to do. That's why it's so important to create a business based on you, your personality and your ideas. You are what sets your business apart from others in your niche so I always try to remember this when working on new products or branding.
beauty balm started because the cleansing balm I was using at the time really irritated my skin and had an endless list of ingredients. This is how my ideas usually come to me...everyday life. Obviously subjects that I'm passionate about, like sustainability and self-empowerment, always play a part in my initial ideas as well.
What is your best advise for people starting small businesses that you wish you knew when you were starting?
4/ The biggest piece of advice for new small business owners definitely has to be patience. We are all on our individual journeys so comparing your now to someone else's two years in business will only damage your confidence...and to be a business owner you need plenty of that! Just try to remember that your time will come and all of the long days, tears and mistakes will happen for a reason.
